Capt'n sent me a neat video 'o two dudes dueling with small puppets on sticks. Their design were a might primitive an needed some development to be truly practical. The basic concept however was rock solid. The games goal (other than generate cash from the violence deprived public) is to stick yer pointy puppet sword into yer opponents tender puppet balloon chest. Hoping to have a working game by the time the Celtic festival rolls around. The puppets be around 16"-18" tall an will be clothed in a loose weave painted burlap cloth simulating pirate garb. Theys jointed and can be moved around thru a rod in their back side. The sword is controlled by another rod. If ye be old enough think 'o the Waylon Flowers puppet "Madame" that was on the Johnny Carson show long ago. We be thinkin' we can get about a buck per balloon, maybe even run a tourney. We need some really FUGLY 3"-4" doll heads to experiment with. Sculpy is too heavy and won't take the beating. Attachments:

Still looking for acceptable heads. Rubbery plastic is good, paint and hair don't matter. Struck out at the local craft stores and a near death experience at Spirit. Might have to go with a generic wood shape and hide it behind a faux fencing mask. One body is jointed and assembled, other gets assembled tomorrow. Both will need 1/32" piano wire hairpin springs to keep the front leg and the rear arm in position. Gonna need some trial and error experimenting to get the table size/ height and spacing correct. Also looking for volunteer(s) to sew up a couple of pirate costumes, possibly some spares cause this project is gonna catch hell at every event we take it too.

Ok, the skull and caulking heads are takin' WAAY too long. Plan B is simple foam balls like Jack Box done up with some felt accouterments.

Workin' me arse off to get these guys ready for the Celtic Festival. Ended up bein' a much larger project than anticipated. Gotta make it crowd safe as the original video showed great prospects for spillin' real blood.

First light at the Celtic Fest showed some weaknesses in the design. Lighter springs for the return pull, straight spring steel sword rods instead of the angled soft steel ones, a shorter base and side fishnet guards to keep small hands and faces out. Will also be installing a "18 or older only" sign as the little ones have no interest in the science behind and only want to thrash it till broke. Evolution will happen.

We'll be givin' this another run at RinCon in June. Built short legs fer the box but not short enough. Set it out in the yard and let termites take 6" off.
