Many a year ago I took the I took the then girlfriend(now Wife) to the Az Rennaisance Fair. T'was still in it's infancy with no permanent structures an only about 200 yards of vendors. Passed one said knockdown structure which was sellin' windchimes. Wifey fell in love with this big set 'o pipes but there weren't no way in Hades I could swing the filthy Florin necessary an they was too big ta hide under me cloak. Sooo, I took notes and a few years later assembled a set out of 2" electrical conduit. Well 30 years has passed and the pipes look a little worse fer wear an the hangin' hardware didn't survive the last windstorm. Wire feed welder and digital guitar tuner will make things easier this time 'round. Photos to come some time in the future.

Here's the halo assembly that the pipes hang from. 1/4" x 2" steel with 8" sides. Hit it all over with a grinder so's it rusts evenly. Followed an online formula for pipe length, diameter, mounting holes distance, years ago. Sounded like hammered dog dooty. Gonna hang 'em from the top edge and cut to length according to what the guitar tuner says. All up weight is gonna be a bit heavier than the original, probably around 150lbs. Gettin' it up the tree is gonna be fun. Attachments:

Welp... hammered doggy dooty sounds better than what a pipe hanging by it end sounds like so its off to the scratch pad and calconfusor to figure out mounting lengths.

Slight delay in getting the two and a half inch electrical conduit pipes bought. They were $20 years ago, now up to $36. Adds up quick, crikey!

Tubes are cut, now undergoing acid treatment to remove the galvanizing, want 'em to rust evenly. Halo assembly ready to hang in tree. Attachments:

Quick note on using acid to eat off galvanizing- Pool acid is 15% strength, concrete etching is 30%. The pool acid is much more controllable, the 30% erupts in a geyser of foam and corrosive fumes (that means keep yer face away from it and upwind)
